Thoughts From Sara's Mom Sue Fredrickson

Every day now, I look around & see people – really see them.  I don’t think this was always true.  I think we all get so wrapped up in our lives & the lives of those around us, & that is not a bad thing.  That is until July 27th, 2009.  That was the day my beautiful daughter Sara was diagnosed with Leukemia – that was the day our lives changed forever.  A new college graduate – signing a lease to move out on her own & job hunting.  It was just the beginning of her life.  Now, that life has been put on hold – we don’t know for how long.

Sara is an amazing & strong young woman – I have really never heard her complain – why me?  Then – on August 21, 2009 her father, Bob, my husband & best friend for the last 32 years suddenly passed away.  No warning – nothing.  We were & still are devastated.  Again – our lives have been changed forever.  Bob worked for years at the Sentry in Twin Lakes as a meat cutter before moving over to Piggly Wiggly in Lake Geneva.  He loved every single customer & they loved him.  What a wonderful man he was.

I don’t think I could have made it through all this without my son’s Eric & Tom & so many other family members.  We took turns driving Sara to Frodtert & back for months.  I’ll admit – it was tough but we stuck together & we made it.  Three days ago, Sara had a bone marrow biopsy.  We have to wait until Monday for her results & we are of course hoping to hear the magic word remission!  I just wanted to add a little something to this & let people know – we will make it.  Bob & I raised 3 fantastic kids – he would be so proud – I know I am.  I do look at the world & the people in it differently, now.  I see good in everyone.  I read something the other day I am going to share:

“Change is the law of life & those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”.  It is a quote from John F. Kennedy.  Thank you all for your support.
